Common Questions
Can my windshield be repaired or should it be replaced?
Professional Glass will tell you that the decision to repair or replace the windshield depends on the severity and placement of the chips. For instance, if the chips on the windshield are bigger than the size of a quarter, your best option is to get the windshield replaced. Repairs can be much more affordable than a replacement. Discuss these options for repair or replacement with the Professionals Auto Glass team. They’ll let you know whether you can really save money, or are merely postponing the inevitable.
Will I still be able to see the rock chip after it is repaired?
Yes, you will still be able to see a small “scar” after your windshield is repaired. Repairs are designed to restore the structural integrity to your windshield. Fortunately, we will also be able to improve the cosmetic appearance of the rock chip and make the damaged area considerably less visible.
What causes the rock chip to crack further?
It is difficult to predict when a rock chip will crack further. Extremes in temperatures often will result in small chips becoming larger cracks. To be safe, you should have a repair performed promptly after noticing the damage.
How long does a windshield installation take?
Generally a windshield installation will take up to four hours from start to finish. There is up to 1 hour of “curing” time. Curing time is the amount of time it takes the urethane adhesive (glue) that holds the windshield in place to dry to the FMVSS 216 ( Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards).
No vehicle will be allowed to drive away without proper drying time.
Will you replace my windshield stickers?
Yes, our technicians will make every effort to save your windshield stickers and affix them to your new windshield.
What role does my windshield play to ensure my safety in an accident?
The windshield provides a significant amount of strength to the structural support in the cabin of the vehicle. For instance, in a front end collision the windshield provides up to 45% of the structural integrity of the cabin of the vehicle and in a rollover, up to 60%. Your windshield is classified as a “safety device” because it provides structural strength to your car body, helps keep passengers inside the car if an accident should occur, and supports the inflation and performance of passenger side airbags. As important as the windshield quality is, so too is the quality and proper installation of the auto glass adhesive.
What is OEM?
OEM, or Original Equipment Manufacturer, simply means the parts are certified to be genuine manufacturer parts. This means the glass will be the same as what came out of your vehicle. In regards to replacing glass with another brand makes no difference at all. Collector cars may want OEM parts to retain originality of the vehicle, for the rest of us all glass is AS-1 certified and is guaranteed to fit correctly every time.

How much will my insurance cover?
Auto glass repair and replacement is covered under your automobile’s comprehensive policy. You will only be responsible for your deductible, which will be collected at the time of service. Many insurers will waive your deductible for a windshield repair, costing you no out-of-pocket expenses. If you have liability only coverage, then auto glass services will not be covered. You will be responsible for payment at the time of service.
Will my insurance rates go up from a windshield replacement?
Your insurance rates do not go up on your comprehensive policy. Insurance pays the bill except for the deductible. Be sure to check with your insurance agent to verify the possibility of your rates increasing.
